REPUBLICANS | DEMOCRATS
Activity Intensifies Over the Summer; Republicans Continue to Dominate
(Sept. 30, 2015) - The 3rd Quarter saw three candidates formally enter the race (Walker, Kasich and Gilmore) and two bow out (Perry and Walker). Summer was a very busy time for the presidential candidates in the early states. Overall since Nov. 7, 2012, potential, active and former Republican candidates have spent over a thousand days in these three early states1, or a bit more than four times as many days as the Democrats. In terms of total number of visits, the Republican three-state tally of 633.5 is 3.64 times that of the 174 visits by Democrats. For the 3rd Quarter in these three states, 17 major Republicans tallied 217 visits and 413 days compared to 72 visits and 113 days for the five active major Democrats plus potential candidate Biden, who was not active (3.03 times as many visits and 3.65 times as many days). Republican activists in these states thus have a lot more opportunities to see one of their candidates than do Democrats.
1. Due to limited resources this tally does not include visits to Nevada, but one can still get a sense of the level of traffic. Because Nevada is the third Democratic contest one would expect significantly more Democratic traffic than is going to South Carolina but still far less than Iowa and New Hampshire.

REPUBLICANS - 3RD QUARTER 2015
The number of visits and days spent in these three early states by Republican prospects continued to increase. From the 1st Quarter 2015 to the 2nd Quarter to the 3rd Quarter total visits went from 80 to 176.5 to 217 and days from 124 to 271 to 413. The most active Republicans in terms of days spent in these three early states in the 3rd Quarter 2015 (July 1- Sept. 30) were Jindal (46 total days), Graham (37 total days) and Fiorina (36 total days). Doing the least travel to these three states in this period were Gilmore (4 total days), Pataki and Trump (14 total days each) and Cruz (16 total days).
