Keeping the Capitol in Good Repair  ...back >
July 10, 2014 - As part of the Capitol dome restoration project scaffolding is being installed around the dome and towers and bridging are being constructed to help move materials.  According to the Architect of the Capitol, the dome was last repaired in 1959-60 and now has "more than 1,000 cracks and deficiencies." Workers from the Architect of the Capitol are also restoring the Olmstead Terrace which goes around the Capitol on the north, west, and south.  They are starting with "the northeast approach walls, stairs and eastern portion of the north terrace wall."  This project will be done in five phases over a period of five years.
