Sept. 9, 2014 - Immigration
Equality graphic designer April Lee wraps up
after a news conference on "lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender (LGBT),
and
queer individuals who have been hurt by our country's dysfunctional
immigration policies and practices." Immigration Equality
has provided free legal services to lesbian, gay, bisexual,
transgender, and HIV-positive immigrants since 1994. Among the
participants in this event was José, who
immigrated from El Salvador about ten years
ago, was granted asylum in 2012, and is now working as a counselor in
the San Francisco area. He recounted how gang members threatened
and
targeted the gay community in El Salvador, and said detention centers
here in the United States can be
very dangerous places for members of the LGBT community. |
