May 8, 2014 - The Affordable
Care Act/Obamacare is in the courts again. This time the
scene was U.S. Court of Appeals for the DC Circuit, sometimes described
as the second highest court in the land, where attorneys made oral
arguments in Priests for Life vs.
the U.S Department of Health and Human Services. Similar
to Hobby Lobby, argued before
the U.S. Supreme Court on March 25, Priests for Life is challenging the
HHS "contraceptive services mandate," the requirement under the
Affordable Care Act that it provide "insurance plans that include
coverage for, or access to,
contraception, sterilization, abortifacients, and related education and
counseling." While attorneys presented their arguments inside
the court, supporters of Priests for Life held a rally for religious
freedom outside. Rev. Pat Mahoney described the HHS mandate as
"the greatest attack on religious freedom in American history."
In addition to representatives of various pro-life groups, a number of
congressmen stopped by to speak at the rally. |
