Sanders (I-VT), chairman of the Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee,
meets in his personal office with Robert McDonald, President Obama’s
nominee to be secretary of the
Department of Veterans Affairs. Obama announced McDonald as his
choice to head the department on June 30 following the resignation on
May 30 of
Eric Shinseki. McDonald retired in June 2013 from his position as chairman, president and CEO of Procter &
Gamble. As committee chairman, Sanders has been in the
forefront
of efforts to address the VA scandal. With Sen. John McCain
(R-AZ) he introduced the Veterans’ Access to Care through Choice,
Accountability and Transparency Act of 2014, which the Senate passed on
June 11 by a vote of 93 to 3. |
