Former Gov. Jim Gilmore heads
the Republican Party of Virginia's Team Virginia field program.
"Unity is imperative for us to win this election," Gilmore
declared. He said there is "a narrow path to the White House, and
it goes through Virginia."
|
|
Sean Spicer, chief strategist
and communications director at the RNC was the only candidate for
elector. If the Republican nominee wins Virginia in November he
and other Republican electors with meet on Dec. 19, the first Monday
after the second Wednesday, to cast their votes for president and vice

Spicer said.

Charles Hernick, candidate for
Congress, said that running against Congressman Don Beyer is comparable
to running against a thoroughbred horse, but he said that Beyer is like
an old Clydesdale at the [Kentucky] Derby. Hernick conceded that
the odds of winning in the 8th Congressional District are "not good,"
but said it could be done.
|
|
Mike Webb, candidate for
Congress, emphasized his Christian faith and said he would approach the
campaign as a military mission. The two candidates for Congress
were allotted seven minutes each.
Various other candidates spoke. In the race for State Central
Committee, there were
seven candidates and each was allotted two minutes. A major
dividing
line among them was the use of primaries or conventions to nominate the
party's
statewide candidates.
|
|
District convention delegates
and guests follow the
proceedings. The credentials committee reported a total of 445

Candidates for national convention delegate each spoke for two
