Sanders Shifts to Bigger Charleston Hall as Turnout Expectation Swells

BURLINGTON, Vt. – With turnout projections mounting, U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders’ campaign today shifted the location of Sunday’s town meeting in Charleston, South Carolina, from a union hall to a much bigger high school gymnasium.

The new location at Burke High School is big enough to seat the more than 1,000 people who already have signed up on BernieSanders.com saying they plan to attend the Sunday night town meeting.

“The response in South Carolina has been tremendous,” said Phil Fiermonte, the campaign’s field director. “The interest in Bernie and his message about rebuilding our middle class is resonating in South Carolina like it is in other states around the country.

“As we were planning for Sunday’s appearance in Charleston, we got to the point where we just didn’t think the Longshoreman’s union hall could handle the crowd,” Fiermonte added. “We also thought the school address had a nice ring to it. It’s located at 244 President St.”
