Feb. 4, 2014 - The Republican National Committee honored Michigan businessman Bill Brooks, Ohio Judge Sara Harper and Dr. Louis Sullivan of Atlanta at its 2nd Annual Black Republican Traillblazers Awards.

William Brooks is chairman and CEO of BPI Communications and a former vice president of corporate affairs at General Motors; he served in the Nixon, George H.W. Bush and Clinton administrations.  "Economic power is the new civil rights frontier," Brooks stated.  Brooks said Rosa Parks was a mentor to him and challenged him to work "to get people to where you are."
Judge Sara J. Harper, now retired, was the first African American woman to graduate from Case Western Reserve Law School; she was elected to the Ohio Court of Appeals in 1990 and later was assigned to sit on the Ohio Supreme Court.  In addition the Trailblazer award she also received a resolution from Ohio Gov. John Kasich, presented by Ohio Republican chairman Matt Borges.
Dr. Louis W. Sullivan, M.D. was founding president of The Morehouse School of Medicine, and served as Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services from 1989-93.
